ITINERARY
3-Day Iceland Itinerary
Three days is enough to see Iceland's greatest hits: Reykjavík, the Golden Circle, and the South Coast. This is the most popular short-break route in Iceland for good reason.
DAY 1
Reykjavík & Reykjanes Peninsula
0 km driving
Arrive at Keflavík, Blue Lagoon on the way into the city, afternoon in Reykjavík.
- →Keflavík Airport
- →Blue Lagoon
- →Hallgrímskirkja
- →Laugavegur & Old Harbour
- →Reykjavík dinner
Tip: Book the Blue Lagoon well in advance — it sells out weeks ahead in summer. The Premium package includes a drink and towel, worth it after a long flight.
DAY 2
The Golden Circle
~230 km loop
Iceland's most iconic day trip: Þingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss.
- →Þingvellir National Park
- →Geysir & Strokkur
- →Gullfoss waterfall
- →Optional: Kerið crater
- →Return to Reykjavík
Tip: Do the loop clockwise — Þingvellir first when it's quieter, Geysir mid-morning before coach tours arrive. Gullfoss is worth at least 45 minutes.
DAY 3
South Coast
~320 km return
Waterfalls, black sand beaches, and glacier views before your return flight.
- →Seljalandsfoss
- →Skógafoss
- →Reynisfjara black sand beach
- →Vík village
- →Return via Ring Road
Tip: Leave Reykjavík by 7am if your flight is in the evening. Reynisfjara has dangerous sneaker waves — stay behind the warning signs regardless of how calm the sea looks.
Our Verdict
This route works year-round, though summer gives longer days and winter adds aurora potential. Hire a standard 2WD car — none of these routes require 4WD. Budget around ISK 15,000–20,000 per day for fuel, meals, and entry fees.
